snake oil

if you've ever been pregnant, then you might have been surprised by the things people have said.

how far along?

are you planning on breastfeeding?

are you opposed to an epidural?

is this your first?

and so on.

when the baby arrives,

same thing.

sleeping through the night yet?

sitting up?

taking good naps?

etc.

it's the same with cancer.

how are you treating it?

where was it located?

how was it found?

what is your family history?

etc.

i don't remember telling anyone how to be pregnant.

or how to be a parent.

i would have no clue about how to tell someone how to manage their cancer.

it's enough managing my own.

which is my point.

every.  cancer. is. different.

someone called me the other day, out of the blue, who i hadn't spoken to in years.

she'd 'heard' about my cancer, had done some 'research' on it, and wanted '45 minutes' of my time.

because she was selling a product that could cure it.

and also, if i continued using this product, which i could order through her, i could prevent it's return, because, as she didn't seem to mind letting me know,

it will come back.

what are you doing?

is what she asked.

i told her i was under the care of dr. bear at massy cancer.

well.

that was fine and all, but what she was pushing,

sharing,

selling,

 was better.

smarter.

more ahead of the curve.

really?

then my advice to her is this.

if you get cancer, then you know what to do.

ok?

  1. Isn't it interesting the number of people who think they're curing or have cured cancer from their couches.
I know someone who thinks she helped cure the cancer of people she knows by giving them a piece of a rock from some "holy place" in Europe. Well hallelujah, another virgin birth.
What's next, living room soirees like Tupperware parties selling cancer cures? If they had the cancer patient's best interests at heart, they wouldn't be selling it in the first place. Not only because what they're selling doesn't work, but because it should be FREE.
    Yeah, tick-tock, peeps.
